Notably, middle-aged people who have never been married face fewer chronic health issues than those who married and were divorced or widowed. Divorce and the death of a spouse cause incredible amounts of stress, both physical and emotional. It is no wonder that in the Holmes-Rahe Scale, commonly known as the life stress test, divorce and the death of a spouse are the highest-ranking events in terms of the amount of stress that results from the experience.
When people have marital difficulties and are considering divorce, they lose sleep and their diet gets worse. They spend less time exercising and more time worrying. This can lead to serious health consequences and is likely reflected in the fact that divorced men and women have twenty percent more chronic health problems than those who are still married to their first spouse.
Now, this by no means suggests that you should prolong a failed marriage and avoid divorce at all costs in order to avoid the detriment to your health. However, if and when you have to face these difficult situations, it is important to learn how to manage the stress that you will inexorably feel. Having an advocate through the process is one way to alleviate that stress. At Arnold & New, we understand the complicated and taxing nature of divorce and make every effort to help our clients secure a divorce as quickly as possible. We will coordinate with all parties involved: you, your spouse, or your spouse’s attorneys in order to resolve the matter amicably. Contact us today, so we can help you.
